Silverfield takes home gold

Yang fires final round 70 to claim victory

Tampa, Fla -The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour conducted the 2009 Hunters Green Junior Shootout at Hunters Green CC on July 13-14. Hunters Green CC was in great condition with exciting holes and a great finisher. The lack of wind and steamy temperatures made it a grueling physical test.

In the Boys 16-19 division, Charles Silverfield of Tampa, FL took home the title with rounds of 70 and 74, giving him an even-par 144 tournament total. Silverfield, after taking the first round lead, with the lowest divisional round of the day which included three birdies and one eagle, came out of the gate calm and collected paring the first three holes and birdying number five. Silverfield would make one birdie and one bogey on the back nine to cruise to victory by four. Second place goes to Gary Buffington of Tampa, FL with rounds of 73 and 75. Buffington, three shots back after round one, tried to rally with only one bogey and two birdies in the first fourteen holes, but would falter down the stretch, playing the last four holes in four-over par, to fall short of victory. Third place honors goes to Christian Senger of Palm Harbor, FL with tournament rounds of 74 and 78.

In the Boys 13-15 division, Ryan Mosley of St. Pete FL, the first round leader with a round of one-under par 71, would capture victory with a final round of 77. Mosley who had three birdies and two bogies in the first round, would comfortably ride in to victory on day two. Second place goes to Anthony Maccaglia of Tampa, FL who posted a first round 82 but would fire two-over- par 74 in the final round. Third place goes to Tommy Nettles of McMurray, PA with rounds of 83 and 75.

In the Boys 10-12 division, Jared Barclay of Weston FL, playing in his first HJGT event would take home the title with rounds of 76 and 72. Cameron Barrett of Longwood, FL took home second with tournament rounds of 83 and 79.

In the Girls 15-19 division, Sheena Yang of Tampa, FL would post rounds of 76 and 70, which included four birdies and an eagle during the tournament. Yang will look to continue her success at the University of South Florida in the fall. Second place goes to Laura Hendee of Tampa, FL with rounds of 78 and 81. Kim Carpenter of Tampa, FL shot 80 and 82 to round out the top three.
